We may not be able to FIX it, but we want to help.
In times of fear and uncertainty, Sound Sanctuary Tattoos knows that community matters most. We feel the weight of what you are carrying. That’s why we are starting a new community care initiative - the Tattoo Grant Program.
If you are running low on hope and tattoos help you feel better, even momentarily, we want to offer you a safe place and a tattoo. Please read on to find more information about the grant and how to apply.
Why are we doing this?
We’ve seen mental health issues quickly skyrocket, specifically among our clients, family, and friends who are in marginalized groups, such as LGBTQ+, women, and people of color. While we are by no means licensed therapists, we saw a need to figure out how we could offer low or no-cost “tattoo therapy” to clients who are within these marginalized groups and facing mental health struggles.
How does our initiative work?
Our online shop (you can check it out here) has an assortment of merch available that our clients (or anyone really) can purchase. Choose your merch, pay, and get your swag, while also supporting our efforts to make a positive impact on our grant applicants.
ALL proceeds from our merch at this time will go directly into The Tattoo Grant fund. We will select as many grant applicants as possible based on how many items sell, so the more we sell, the more people we’ll be able to help.
We have an encrypted form below for applicants to submit. To ensure that applicants feel that their vulnerability is protected, the only individuals who will see the applications are those who work at the shop. We will choose grant prize winners at random as funds from our online store come in.
While tattoos are seen as a luxury item by most, others view it as a self-care moment for themselves or even a method to prevent self-harm. However much we’d like to offer everyone this program, from our data, we have chosen at this time to focus on benefitting:
LGBTQ+ individuals
women (meant here as humans with reproductive organs)
people of color
